In 2010, Dr. Carol lost her father in a car accident. In the days after the accident, she went to Haiti to honour her father, Peter Johnson, a former CEO of Henderson Hospital. Dr. Johnson volunteered at the Hospital Albert Schweitzer, where she met Peter, and Carol wanted to do something to honor him. She said that her father would have been proud of her. She knew Peter and his family since high school and wanted to do something good for the country and for people in the area.
Dr. Carol was very close to her father when she volunteered in Haiti, but it was the time when her dad died that made her go. The cause of her trip to Haiti was to honour Peter Johnson, the former CEO of Henderson Hospital and a volunteer at Hospital Albert Schweitzer. She knew Peter since high school and had heard about him from her parents. This gave her the opportunity to do something meaningful and help him in his time of need.
